たとえどんなに傷ついても
どれだけ傷つくことになっても
誰にも僕は止められない
僅かな光を見つければいい
今は太陽があがらなくても

Call me Ryuu.
Yes, it's a masculine name. No, I'm not male. I'm just partial to the kanji for 'ryuu' (as used in ryuuseigun, which also happens to be the title of a song by Onitsuka Chihiro). The kanji means 'flow' in Chinese, and is written as 流 and pronounced 'liu' in Mandarin or 'lau' in Cantonese. Yes, I know it's not pronounced 'ryuu' when used on its own, but 'ryuuseigun' was just free at the time while few of my other choices were.
I was born in Hong Kong. The last decade or so of my life has been spent in Australia, though I still stutter less in Cantonese than in English. Sometime in the future, I hope to work in a few different Asian countries (namely Japan, China and Hong Kong) so I can learn their respective languages and absorb their culture - and food - at the same time, but I love living where I live and will probably limit myself to several-month blocks of travel for the forseeable future.
Currently, I study an Arts/IT double degree in Australia, with a double major in Japanese and a minor in International Relations. People in real life give me weird looks when they realise I'm not spending seven years on a Biomed degree, whereas people I know online would gape at me for considering that option. Either way, practicality is really not my forte and if idealism will be stomped out of me 'sooner or later', it'll be later rather than sooner. For now, I believe that whatever I'm meant to do will find me eventually.
My spare time is almost always spent online, though I do occasionally step away to make experimental soups, play the piano and learn Latin dancing. My holidays are usually spent doing volunteer work involving children, and my weekends are spent offering private tutoring to slightly older children. I write Chinese calligraphy as a hobby and as a way to meditate, but I find journalling more effective in terms of clearing out my subconscious so I spend inordinate amounts of time typing away.
Contacting me is not difficult. I check my flist and my email more frequently than any sane person should, so either method works beautifully. Chat-wise, however, I only really talk with three or four people. It's nothing personal; my social skills (and desire to exercise them) just tend to switch off after work and uni.
This journal is friends only for all purposes and intents. I may leave one or two meaningless entries out in the open, but that would be it. Feel free to add me. I would be happy to reciprocate the favour unless you frequently post uncut quizzes/memes that murder my layout, or appear extremely attached to chatspeak, CAPS (or a complete lack thereof) and one-word fangirly entries.
If I add you without warning, please feel no obligation to add me back. Reading material keeps me sane. I solemnly swear that I will not stalk anyone without giving sufficient warning first. If being added bothers you, please let me know.
Comments-wise, I am horrible. Really. If you are someone likes people to comment frequently, I have one thing to say: do not add me. To everyone else, rest assured that I follow my flist more closely than I do the news, and read everything unless exams have driven me insane. I just prefer reading to typing since I listen to my own mental drone enough as it is.
Finally, a warning - I filter obsessively. I have an insane, complicated hierarchy that I use when posting, and if I do not know you well, chances are that you may not see many posts at all. In time, that may change, and you may discover that I spam LJ much more than strictly necessary. Should that become a bother, please just let me know; chances are that I will be relieved that you spoke up instead of growing increasingly willing to strangle me.
For emergency purposes, my contact details are here. In all other circumstances, leave a note on the topmost post to contact or post.
